Dear friend of GLEN World,
As we head into the holiday season and start the countdown toward 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect and share the progress that we’ve made this year toward our mission, which is to help every child learn to read and get ready for school.
Our content continues to be discovered by learners around the globe thanks to our Google Ads grant. Our learner analytics indicate that around 80K learners have benefited from our content, having completed 650K learning activities and enjoyed 165K stories. With our YouTube channel, we’ve now reached additional learners – more on this below. In terms of geographies where our content is being consumed the most: most of our learners are from Asia, South America, and Africa.
While the mix of top cities where our learners are from continues to vary, here are the top cities for Jan 2024 to Nov 2024.
Earlier this year we launched our YouTube channel where our young learners can enjoy all our children’s stories as YouTube videos and our rhymes as YouTube shorts. So far, our stories have been viewed 60K times, with Where’s My Kitty? still at the top of our popular videos list followed by El Nino que Grito “Lobo” in the second place. It’s been satisfying to get our learning content across to more learners via YouTube. The viewership trends continue to offer helpful insights into how our learners respond to our stories and rhymes.
We’ve recently started experimenting with leveraging generative AI to cautiously and thoughtfully create engaging learning content. We shared our thought process and content creation philosophy at length in our last blog post.
It is still too early to draw meaningful inferences on learner engagement and the learning efficacy of our content, but we look forward to learning as much as possible from this experiment. We’ll keep you posted!
In addition to organic usage via our web and mobile apps and our YouTube channel, we continue to work on creating deployment opportunities for our GLEN Learn app with local and international partners. A visit this year to a school in rural West Bengal in India, run by a band of idealistic volunteers, was particularly inspiring. The children come from economically impoverished backgrounds, but they are bright spirits who are eager to learn and happy to be at school. The teachers saw the potential of the GLEN Learn app, and a few of the children who got to try it out were engaged and interested. Everyone we spoke to recognized the crucial importance of mastery of English for the economic and academic future of these children, so we hope to work together to surmount the logistic hurdles in weaving immersive English education into this environment.
